Buck Crouse

The tobacco-chewing, drawling Crouse was a reliable backup for Hall of Fame catcher Ray Schalk. It was Crouse who said to the scholarly Moe Berg, “Moe, I don’t care how many of those degrees you got, they ain’t learned you to hit the curveball no better than me.” In 1937, Crouse was International League MVP, leading Baltimore to the playoffs as player-manager.
