Carl Scheib

Signed by the Athletics out of high school, hard-throwing Carl Scheib became the youngest player to appear in an American League game (16 years, eight months, five days) when he made his pro debut in the second game of a September 6, 1943 doubleheader. He pitched in 25 games with Philadelphia before being called to military duty in 1945. He returned in 1947, went 14-8 in 1948, but dropped to 3-10 with a league-high nine relief losses in 1950. For a pitcher, he was an outstanding hitter (.250, 5 HR).
