Chief Johnson

Johnson was a Winnebago Indian from Nebraska who went to the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. He was earning $3,200 a year with the Reds in 1914 when he jumped to Kansas City of the Federal League. Johnson’s best season came in his last, 1915, as he went 18-17 with a 2.75 ERA in the Federal League, beefing up his record with a 4-0 mark in relief.
