Dave Tobik

Tobik was an inconsistent, forkballing reliever who also made use of a palmball. Aurelio Lopez‘s arm problems in 1982 thrust Tobik, who had been a long man, into the role of Detroit’s bullpen ace. He worked in a career-high 51 games and led the club with nine saves. The Rangers acquired him in 1983 to be their closer, and again he saved nine games.
