Derrel Thomas

A jack-of-all-trades, Thomas played every position but pitcher in the majors. The speedster and admitted hot dog was considered one of the NL’s better defensive outfielders. He played regularly in the Padres’ and Giants’ infields his first five seasons. Signed as a free agent by the Dodgers in November 1978, the Los Angeles native was thrilled to wear the uniform number 30 of his boyhood idol, Maury Wills.
