Acquired from Washington along with Rocky Bridges and Neil Chrisley for Reno Bertoia, Ron Samford, and Jim Delsing on December 6, 1958, Yost played third base for the Tigers from 1959-1960. He left Detroit when he was selected in the expansion draft by the Los Angeles (now Anaheim) Angels in December 1960.
