In 1882 and 1883, Swartwood ranked among American Association leaders in nearly every offensive category, including league-leading marks of 86 runs and 162 total bases in 1882 and a .356 BA in 1883. He also led the AA in walks in 1886, with 70. He hit .327 with 106 runs and 53 stolen bases for Toledo in 1890.
