Pastore went 13-7 (3.26) to lead the 1980 Reds staff in wins; it was to be his only year with more than nine victories and a winning record. He missed most of 1984 after being hit in the right arm with a line drive off the bat of the Dodgers Steve Sax. After an unrelated elbow operation in 1985, he returned without his good fastball or breaking stuff and was accused by some of throwing a spitter.
