Gene Stephens

On June 18, 1953, Stephens had three hits in one inning against the Tigers, but he spent his most promising ML years as a late-inning substitute for Ted Williams and was often called Williams’s “caddy.” From 1955 through 1959, he averaged nearly 120 games per season but only 1.67 at-bats per game. Even after being traded to the Orioles in 1960 (Williams’s final season), he never became a ML regular.
