George Hendrick

Hendrick gave credit to Joe Rudi for enabling him to become a complete player in Oakland. Hendrick had an easy style that seemed too casual to some, but he averaged 22 homers annually in four campaigns with Cleveland. Traded to San Diego, he responded with a .311 season. Hendrick blossomed with the Cardinals, reaching the .300 plateau three times while driving in over 100 twice. Although Silent George had long refused to speak to the press, he was well-liked by his teammates and the fans in St. Louis. He was a very capable right fielder and later assumed duties at first base when Keith Hernandez was dealt. TSN awarded Hendrick Silver Slugger Awards at each position.
