Grover and his brother Lou Lowdermilk both pitched for the 1911 Cardinals. Grover was 6’4″ and lean, with long fingers, and was favorably compared to Walter Johnson – except that he couldn’t control his blazing fastball. He was a member of the 1919 Black Sox but was not involved in the scandal.
