Gus Williams

Williams struck out 120 times in 1914, only the second year that the AL counted that statistic. It stood as the major league record until 1938 and as the AL record until 1953. Williams’s best season was 1913, when he hit .273, stole 31 bases, scored 72 runs, and tied for fourth in the AL with 16 triples. That April 24, he tied the AL record when he hit three triples in a nine-inning game.
