On August 5, 1921, Arlin called the first baseball game ever to be broadcast on radio, describing the Pirates’ 8-5 victory over the Phillies from a Forbes Field box seat for Pittsburgh’s station KDKA. That fall, Arlin worked the first-ever football broadcast as well, a college game between Pitt and West Virginia.
