Jerry Turner

Turner had an extraordinary season as a pinch hitter in 1978, leading the NL with 20 pinch hits; coming in 49 pinch at-bats, good for a .408 average. His overall .280 average earned him the Padres’ right-field job for 1979, his only season as a regular. He hit .248 with nine HR and career highs of 61 RBI and 55 runs in 448 at-bats but fielded a startlingly poor .958.
