Jim Landis

The swift, graceful fielder was the White Sox’ center fielder for 8 of his 11 seasons. In 1959 Landis scored six runs in the six-game WS for the “Go-Go Sox.” Although his batting average was usually low, as a regular he averaged 67 walks a season, showed occasional power, and had 14 or more stolen bases six straight times in a nonrunning era. By far his best year was 1961, when he hit .283 with 22 HR and 85 RBI, all career highs. His .989 fielding average at retirement was second all-time among outfielders.
