Jimmy Pofahl

Washington moved Cecil Travis to third base to make room for the cat-quick Pofahl, for whom they’d paid $40,000. But Pofahl had injured his arm in an off-season taxi accident and could barely get the ball to first base. His .234 BA didn’t help his case. Travis was back at shortstop in 1941, and Pofahl, after returning to the minors, gave up baseball for wartime defense work.
