Joe Cowley

Cowley set an AL record by striking out the first seven Texas Rangers batters to start a game (May 28, 1986), and he threw a no-hitter with seven walks at California in a 7-1 win (September 19, 1986). Cowley spent eight seasons in the minors before earning a starting spot with the Yankees in July 1984. He won eight straight decisions that year, finishing 9-2. He was traded to the White Sox after a 12-6 record in 1985, then to the Phillies for Gary Redus before the 1987 season. Cowley was a huge bust for the Phillies, going 0-4 with 17 walks, 21 hits and a 15.43 ERA in just 11-2/3 innings. He was sent down, pitched just as poorly, and was sent home in July.
