Kelly was the everyday centerfielder for the 1914 Pirates, hitting .222 with career highs of 48 RBI, 47 runs, 21 steals, and 19 doubles, but he was a poor fielder. In his next-most-active season, 1917, he led NL outfielders in errors while again hitting .222.
