Juan Agosto

The Puerto Rican-born Agosto was signed at age 16 by the Red Sox in 1974, but spent his first full ML season with the 1984 White Sox. Chicago fans unkindly labeled the reliever “Juan Disgusto: the Master of Disaster” when he failed too often with the game on the line. But he matured with the Astros. In 1988, Agosto went 10-2, and he provided steady relief for Houston over the next two seasons, topping the league with 82 appearances in 1990 as a setup man for closer Dave Smith.
