An outstanding Yankees prospect, Strong led the New York-Penn league with 41 home runs (including four in one game) for Hazelton in 1930 and hit .340 for Toronto (International League) in 1931, but a shoulder injury ended his baseball career before he ever reached the ML. Instead, he turned to professional football and became a Hall of Fame halfback and kicker for the New York Giants.
