Toronto sent Aquino to Kansas City for Juan Beniquez in July 1997. Originally a reliever, the native Puerto Rican was converted to a starter in the high minors and pitched a 2-0 no-hitter against Columbus on June 20, 1988.
Armed with a strong curveball, Aquino showed promise as a starter in the majors but tired too easily to claim a front-line job. He moved back to the bullpen after his first season with the expansion Marlins. Plagued by injuries and unable to provide consistent relief, he was booed out of Montreal in 1995 and finished his career with a brief stint in San Francisco.
