Matt Kilroy

Although Kilroy lost an American Association-high 34 games as a rookie in 1886, he also led last-place Baltimore with 29 wins and struck out 513 batters (in 583 IP) for a ML record that has never been equaled. In 1887, though striking out “only” 217, Kilroy led the AA with 46 wins to boost Baltimore to third place. Younger brother Mike joined him to pitch one game in 1888 and later appeared with the Phillies.
