Mike Mason

Mason, a surprise addition to the starting rotation of the last-place 1984 Rangers, went 9-13 with the second-lowest ERA among AL rookies – 3.61. He never improved, and he missed time with hamstring and elbow injuries. He was a control pitcher with unspectacular stuff who, his critics said, too often lacked concentration and gave up too many hits when ahead in the count. He spent 1989 in the Astros organization.
