Orlando Mercado

A career backup, this Puerto Rican saw the most action with the 1983 Mariners, batting .197 in 178 at-bats. After three years in Seattle, Mercado served as a backup behind the plate for seven more teams in his five remaining years.

Mercado’s first major-league hit in 1982 was a grand slam off of Steve Comer, but the light-hitting catcher hit just six more round-trippers over the rest of his career.
