After two years in the Cubs’ bullpen, Burris became Chicago’s ace starter in 1975, going 15-10 for a mediocre team and following with a 15-13, 3.11 record in 1976. He dropped to 14-16 in 1977 and 7-13 in 1978. He was traded to the Yankees for Dick Tidrow in May 1979 and was sold to the Mets that August; he spent time on the DL in both 1979 and 1980. He recovered to help the Expos to their only division title with a 9-7, 3.04 record during the strike-shortened 1981 season and pitched well in the LCS. He pitched a five-hit shutout to beat the Dodgers in Game Two and left Game Five tied 1-1, only to see Steve Rogers give up a ninth-inning HR to lose the game and the series. He had only one more winning season after that, going 13-10 for Oakland in 1984.
