Red Smith

Smith was sold by the Dodgers to the Braves in August of 1914, shortly after Boston began its “Miracle” climb from last to first place. Consistently among the best third basemen in the league, that season he led his position peers in putouts, assists, double plays, and total chances per game. His .314 batting average in 60 games was the team high, but he missed the World Series when he broke his leg in a hesitant slide in the last game of the regular season.
