Rene Monteagudo

A 5’7″ Cuban signed by the Senators, Monteagudo failed in two trials as a pitcher, suffered a sore arm, and resurfaced four years later as a Phillies outfielder. In 1945 he was the NL’s most used and most successful pinch hitter (18-for-52) and worked 14 games in relief. His son, Aurelio, also pitched in the majors.
