The 6’6″ Mason made two starts for the 1984 World Champion Tigers, then was traded to San Francisco before the 1985 season. As a Giant, Mason won only five games in three years, spending most of his time in the minors.
He found more action as a member of the Pirates, where he pitched out of the bullpen from 1991-92. Mason was acquired by the Padres in 1993, but dealt to the Phillies for Tim Mauser when he started out 0-7 despite a respectable 3.24 ERA. After being sold to the Mets, he finished up his career with a season in New York. An average regular-season pitcher, Mason thrived in the postseason, where he allowed only one run in eleven appearances for the Phillies and Pirates.
