Sammy Bohne

One of four Cincinnati infielders in the early 1920s who were graduates of the San Francisco sandlots, Bohne broke up Dodger Dazzy Vance’s bid for a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth (6/17/23). That year a Chicago newspaper story implied that Bohne and Pat Duncan were associated with gamblers. The players were cleared by a federal judge, and later Bohne was awarded damages in a libel suit.
