Slim Jones

Jones was the 6’6″ 185-lb ace of the Negro National League‘s Philadelphia Stars. His blistering fastball consistently put him among NNL leaders in strikeouts. His league-high 11 victories helped the Stars capture the 1934 NNL championship. He was the starting pitcher for the East in the all-star games of 1934 and 1935. Duels between Jones and Satchel Paige at Yankee Stadium were a major attraction during the 1930s. Jones’s career was ended by arm trouble in 1938. He died later that year.
