In the minors, Carleton once had 13 consecutive wins and threw a no-hitter. In the majors, he was at least a .500 pitcher in all but his first season, and he won at least ten games in all but his last. On May 30, 1940, he threw a no-hitter for Brooklyn, beating the Reds, 3-0.
