Tom Lawless

Lawless was the unlikely hero of Game Four of the 1987 World Series. With the Twins and Cardinals tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, he hit a three-run homer off Frank Viola as the Cardinals went on to win 7-2. The speedy utility man was playing only because third baseman Terry Pendleton‘s rib injury hindered his righthanded hitting. Lawless had had only two hits in 25 at-bats the entire season (.080), and at that point in his career he had one HR in 215 at-bats and hadn’t homered in the last three years.
