Stainback was a good-natured journeyman outfielder whose ejection from the Cub bench for riding umpire George Moriarty during the 1935 Chicago-Detroit World Series led to the entire dugout being cleared. In 1938 Stainback went from the Cubs to the Cardinals with Curt Davis, Clyde Shoun, and $185,000 for Dizzy Dean
