Voltaggio was the plate umpire on the night of April 29, 1986 when Boston’s Roger Clemens set a ML mark by striking out 20 Seattle Mariners. Voltaggio called eight third strikes on the Mariners. The ex-Marine, who served 18 months in Vietnam, is a distant relative of famous songwriter Stephen Foster.
