Walt Judnich

While advancing through the Yankee farm system, the 6’1″, nervously charged outfielder reminded scouts of Joe DiMaggio. Judnich’s problem was the Yankees already had DiMaggio in centerfield; that was solved by Judnich’s sale to the Browns. While never “another DiMaggio,” he led AL outfielders in fielding three times and had an arm like DiMaggio’s. A lefthanded power hitter who debuted in 1940 with 24 HR, he lost three prime years to military service.
