Who was the first player to play first base and not have a putout or assist?

The first major league player to accomplish this feat was Bud Clancy of the Chicago White Sox. He did it on April 27, 1930, in a game against the St. Louis Browns.

Al McCauley also did it for the Washington Statesmen of the American Association. He entered the record books on August 6th, 1891.
