Woodie Held

As an outfielder with Kansas City in 1957, his rookie year, Held hit 20 HR. He was Cleveland’s starting shortstop from 1959 through 1962. He hit a career-high 29 homers in 1959 and averaged 21 a year in six seasons with the Indians. He struck out often, nearly once in every four at-bats. Though easy-going off the field, he was notorious for his tantrums after striking out. A versatile and reliable fielder, he remained a valuable utility man after his days as a regular.
