Spot-starting and working in long relief, McDonald contributed to Yankee pennants in 1952 and 1953. He yielded six runs in Game Five of the 1953 World Series, but won 11-7, thanks to Mickey Mantle‘s grand slam plus homers by Billy Martin, Gene Woodling, and Gil McDougald.
