A platoon starter for the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates, Nicosia’s career was done in by poor speed and defensive skills. The right-handed hitter was best on offense, setting a San Francisco record with eight consecutive hits in 1984. He caught Game Seven of the 1979 World Series as a rookie.
