Rodger Pippen

Perhaps the man most responsible for the return of ML baseball to Baltimore in 1954, Pippen was sports editor of the Baltimore News-Post from 1906 to 1958. He wrote a daily column and led the campaign to build Memorial Stadium and woo a ML team for years, despite powerful opposition led by the rival Baltimore Sun. In spring training in 1914, Pippen played in the intrasquad game that was Babe Ruth ‘s first professional appearance.
