Frank Pulli

One of Pulli’s closest calls came in the sixth inning of Game Four of the 1978 WS between the Dodgers and Yankees. New York had Thurman Munson on second and Reggie Jackson on first when Lou Piniella hit a shot to shortstop Bill Russell. Russell dropped the ball, picked it up, stepped on second, and threw toward first, but his throw hit Jackson. Pulli ruled no interference despite Dodger manager Tom Lasorda’s argument that Jackson had intentionally deflected the toss.
