After ten games for the Reds in 1914, the 6’6″ Davenport jumped to the Federal League. In 1915 he won 22 for the St. Louis Feds, led the league in games pitched, innings pitched, complete games, strikeouts, and shutouts, and pitched a no-hitter. When the FL folded, he joined the Browns, where Manager Fielder Jones called him the best pitching prospect he’d ever worked with. Although he had a couple of effective seasons with the Browns, including a 17-17 year in 1917, Davenport was out of the ML by 1920, the year his brother Claude pitched in one game for the Giants.
