John Drebinger

A high school track star and son of a violinist in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Drebinger was the oldest writer traveling the baseball circuit when he retired at age 73. He began with the weekly Staten Island Advance and joined the New York Times in 1923. He covered every World Series for the Times from 1929 to 1963. In 1973 he received the J.G. Taylor Spink Award from the Hall of Fame.
