When Wingo hit .370 in 1925, he had the lowest batting average in the Detroit outfield. Harry Heilmann led the league at .393 and player/manager Ty Cobb hit .378. It was the only time that every member of an outfield has hit .370 or better. It was by far Wingo’s career high, as were his 104 runs, 68 RBI, 14 steals, and five HR. It was a time of high averages, and when he fell off to .282 in 1926, he lost his regular status to Fatty Fothergill, who hit .367. Wingo’s brother was Ivy Wingo.
