Wolf, who played right field for Louisville throughout the American Association‘s ten years as a major league, is considered to have been one of the AA’s best outfielders. Normally a solid but unspectacular hitter, he erupted in 1890 to lead the AA (which had been weakened by defections to the upstart Players’ League) with a .363 batting average, 197 hits, and 260 total bases.
