Frank Secory

Secory’s brief ML playing career was highlighted by a 2-for-5 pinch-hitting performance for the Cubs in the 1945 WS. His 12th-inning single in Game Six helped spark the game-winning rally for Chicago.

Secory was working a Cardinals’ game when he called Mike Shannon out at the plate. To “prove” that Shannon had been safe, manager Red Schoendienst demonstrated by sliding into the plate himself. An unamused Secory sent Schoendienst to the showers.
