When the Yankees traded Johnny Allen to Cleveland for Monte Pearson in December 1935, they received Sundra as a throw-in. He won his last four starts in 1938, then ran off 11 straight wins (three in relief) for the 1939 pennant-winners before losing his final start of the season. With the Browns in 1943, he recorded a career-high 15 victories.
