Tom Swope

After brief stints with the Dayton Herald in 1908 and Cleveland Press in 1914, Swope was named sports editor and baseball writer of the Cincinnati Post in 1915 and stayed for 41 years. After one season as statistician on the Reds ‘ TV broadcasts, he rejoined the Post to work on the night sports desk. President of the BBWAA in 1941, he was named in 1949 to a five-man committee to revise the scoring rules and did most of the writing. He had a large collection of baseball equipment, books, and writings, dating back to 1916.
