A capable substitute outfielder, Bennett was hitting .330 in 1924 when a broken arm cost him the rest of the season. A later injury caused by crashing into a wall in Philadelphia hastened the end of his career. The son of a farmer, Bennett later served as the Springfield, Missouri, Commissioner of Revenue.
