Lamabe was successful in his first two seasons, going 7-4, 3.15, with six saves for the 1963 Red Sox. A conversion to starting failed, however, and he bounced around the majors for the rest of his career. He was acquired by the Cardinals in July 1967 and made eight appearances in August without allowing a run, helping St. Louis to the NL pennant. He lost Game Six of the World Series as the Cardinals used eight pitchers that day, tying the record.
